Thomas Hampson joins the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as the baritone soloist in William Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast for their subscription series and annual Symphony Ball.

The performances mark a celebrated return for the baritone, who last appeared with the CSO in January 2019 for a program of American art songs led by the late conductor Bramwell Tovey. Hampson’s interpretations of Belshazzar’s Feast have drawn consistent praise for his commanding stage presence, resonant vocal power, and crystal-clear diction.

Conducted by Klaus Mäkelä, the program on October 8 and 9 also features Giovanni Gabrieli’s Canzon duodecimi toni (arr. Higgins), Gabrieli’s Sonata pian’ e forte (arr. Crees), and Stravinsky’s Petrushka.

The Symphony Ball on October 10 showcases Petrushka alongside Belshazzar’s Feast, welcoming patrons to walk the red carpet and celebrate the launch of the new season. Proceeds from the benefit evening support the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association’s community engagement and educational programming across Chicago.
