Thomas Hampson and Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova tour a unique duo recital across Elmau, Zurich, and London, featuring a reimagined, condensed version of Schubert’s Winterreise alongside works by Kurt Weill and Astor Piazzolla.

Hampson and Sidorova premiered this collaborative concept in early 2025 with acclaimed performances at venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. Hampson revealed that the project was sparked by a simple conversation where both artists agreed that Schubert’s music would sound “fabulous with an accordion,” inspiring them to reimagine Winterreise for baritone and accordion.

The duo has earned high critical praise, with The Arts Desk lauding Hampson’s vocal color and control alongside Sidorova’s richly textured, effective accompaniment.

The full program includes an expanded roster of 20th-century avant-garde, tango, and protest compositions, including Igor Stravinsky’s Tango, Sergey Voytenko’s Revelation, selected solo and collaborative works by Pietro Roffi, Kurt Weill’s “Dirge for Two,” “It Never Was You,” and “Speak Low” (arranged by Roland Pöntinen), and Astor Piazzolla’s Tanti Anni Prima (Ave Maria).

The performances will take place May 24 at the Schloss Emlau, May 26 at the Tonhalle in Zurich, and May 28 at Kings Place in London.
