‘Vanessa’ with the Boston Symphony Orchestra

On January 8 and 10, Thomas Hampson returns to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, joining them for Samuel Barber’s Vanessa in concert, presented in collaboration with Boston Lyric Opera. Hampson reprises the role of The Old Doctor, which he performed last season for Washington National Opera. He earned rave reviews for his performance, with The Washington Post saying, “Baritone Thomas Hampson was superb in the supporting role of The Old Doctor, a magnetic presence on the stage, drawing dark humor with slow deliberation, as though with a syringe.”
Hampson joins a fantastic ensemble cast, led by conductor Andris Nelsons. Jennifer Holloway sings the title role, with Samantha Hankey as Erika, Anne Sofie von Otter as The Old Baroness, Pavel Černoch as Anatol, and Wei Wu as Major Domo/Footman, supported by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the Boston Lyric Opera Chorus.
