‘Cosí fan tutte’ in Munich

On July 5, Thomas Hampson brings his acclaimed portrayal of the cynical Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte to Munich’s Bayerische Staatsoper. Hampson is no stranger to the role or the opera; he performed sung both Don Alfonso and Guglielmo all over the world, and recently directed the famous farce at the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, where he also sang Don Alfonso.
His performance of the role at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 2021 is available on Blue Ray and DVD from Naxos. American Record Guide praised that performance, saying, “Veteran baritone Thomas Hampson, whose mastery of art songs serves him well in recitative singing, is an authoritative Don Alfonso.”
Hampson joins an outstanding international cast in Benedict Andrews’ production, under the baton of Christopher Moulds. The ensemble cast includes Olga Kulchynska as Fiordiligi, Avery Amereau as Dorabella, Björn Bürger as Guglielmo, Daniel Behle as Ferrando, and Sandrine Piau as Despina.
