Thomas Hampson sings Mahler with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Thomas Hampson heads to Maryland to perform Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, led by Thomas Søndergård. The first performance on September 24 will take place at Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, and the second on September 25 at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore.

A renowned interpreter of Mahler lieder, Hampson’s 1990 recording of Songs of a Wayfarer with Leonard Bernstein and the Vienna Philharmonic is a cornerstone recording of classical music. Musik & Theater wrote of his performance: “I know of no other baritone today who can profess a similar mastery of these three Mahler song cycles on a vocal, emotional and textually sensitive level.”

Hampson’s discography contains several recordings of this stunning song cycle. For more information and purchase links, please visit his Recordings page.
