Daniel Hope & Friends at the Menuhin Festival
On July 22 at the Menuhin Festival, Thomas Hampson joins violinist Daniel Hope, cellist Josephine Knight, and pianist Simon Crawford-Phillips to highlight an iconic facet of English music: popular traditions embodied by the immense repertoire of folksongs, whose kaleidoscope of emotions and colours has touched the hearts not only of islanders but also of continental Europeans, such as Haydn and Beethoven, who produced beautiful pieces in English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish tones.
The program will feature excerpts from Bridge’s Miniatures for Piano Trio, Walton’s Violin Sonata, Vaughan Williams’s “How cold the wind doth blow” and a selection of Beethoven’s Scottish and Irish Folksongs.
