On June 7, Thomas Hampson opens the Whitsun Festival with his superstar colleagues, soprano Nadine Sierra, and tenor Michael Fabiano, in a concert entitled “American Night,” at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Hampson has long championed the American song, with the help of his “Song of America” project, which aims to explore connections between poetry and music, and history and culture, through the work of American composers and poets.

Sir Ivor Bolton conducts the Sinfonieorchester Basel and the singers in a special concert featuring songs from Copland’s Old American Songs, selected by Hampson. The charming set features arrangements of folk songs and folk poems from different cultures of ancient America. The second part of the “American Night” features the founding fathers of the American musical era. Learn more about the Whitsun Festival 2019 here.
