Schubert Week at the Pierre Boulez Saal with Thomas Hampson
Expanding on the Schubert Weekend that took place in January 2018, Thomas Hampson returns to the Pierre Boulez Saal for Schubert Week, curated completely by Hampson himself. Kicking off the week will be an all-Schubert recital with Hampson and his longtime collaborator Wolfram Rieger, followed by workshops and a final concert presented to the public with singers from the Festival Akademie of the Heidelberger Frühling.
Beginning on January 21, Hampson opens the week-long series with Wolfram Rieger in recital. The two artists have selected works that combine settings of Goethe and Schiller, including the monumental 20-minute ballad Der Taucher, and songs to poems by Theodor Körner, Schubert’s friend Johann Mayrhofer, and others.
Schubert Week will also include appearances by Mark Padmore, Werner Güra, and Julien Van Mellaerts among others. On January 25 and 26, Hampson and pianists Wolfram Rieger and Malcolm Martineau will coach a group of young singers on selected art songs. Following the masterclass on January 26, the young artists will present their work in a closing concert. A complete list of events and more information about Schubert Week is available via the Boulez Saal website.
