Concerts with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Masterclass at Northwestern

Thomas Hampson kicks off the new year returning to Illinois to perform a series of concerts with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and teach a masterclass at Northwestern’s Bienen School of Music. These engagements mark Mr. Hampson’s return to Chicago since the release of his debut album with Cedille Records, “Songs from Chicago”, an album featuring songs by early mid-twentieth-century composers from Chicago.

On January 10, 11 & 12, Hampson will perform American songs by Ives, Copland, Still, Corigliano, and more, with the CSO. Concluding the program, Tovey Bramwell leads the ensemble in Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a musical riddle that includes fourteen variations based on friends and loved ones from Elgar’s life in England.

Following, Hampson travels to Northwestern University to lead a masterclass at the Bienen School of Music on January 14. Widely regarded as a champion of art song, Thomas Hampson will work with students on the intricacies of American Art Song, beginning at 7 pm in Galvin Recital Hall.
