‘Tosca’ in Munich and a recital in Toblach

This month, Thomas Hampson will make appearances at the Munich Opera Festival in Puccini’s Tosca, and he will perform a recital with his longtime colleague, pianist Wolfram Rieger, in Toblach.

Beginning the month, Hampson will sing Scarpia, a seasoned role for him, at the National Theater with the Bavarian State Opera. Performances are July 9 and July 13, with Marco Armiliato at the podium, and direction by Luc Bondy. Hampson will share the stage with an esteemed roster of singers including Angela Gheorghiu as Tosca, Joseph Calleja as Cavaradossi, Alexander Milev as Angelotti, Kristof Klorek as A Sacristan, Kevin Conners as Spoletta, Christian Rieger as Sciarrone, and Oleg Davydov as the prison guard.

Thomas Hampson is featured as Scarpia on an album of Tosca at the Opernhaus Zurich; purchase links and additional details can be found via his Recordings.

On July 16 at the Kulturzentrum Grand Hotel, Hampson will perform a program of Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with pianist Wolfram Rieger. Regarded as a champion of Mahler’s music, Hampson and Rieger both received the Hugo-Wolf-Medal from the International Hugo-Wolf-Academy for their outstanding achievements in the art of song interpretation.
