June concerts in Austria and Germany
Thomas Hampson caps off the month of June with engagements in Austria and Germany. On June 21 & 22 at the Gewandhaus Leipzig, Hampson will perform with clarinetist Jörg Widmann and the Gewandhaus Orchester under the baton of Andris Nelsons. The concert will feature a program of Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms, Copland’s Old American Songs, Carter’s Konzert für Klarinette und Orchester, and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
Soon after, he will travel to Schwarzenberg for a concert and series of masterclasses at the Schubertiade Festival. On June 24, Hampson will perform with his longtime collaborator Wolfram Rieger in a program of songs by Schubert, Berg, and Mahler. Hampson, who made his Schubertiade debut in 1986, will then host a series of masterclasses from June 25-29 with Mr. Rieger.
Thomas Hampson will then perform at the penultimate concert of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra’s week-long Martha Argerich Festival. At the Laeiszhalle Hamburg on June 30, Hampson will be joined by the revered pianist Martha Argerich, violinist Akiko Suwanai, cellist Mischa Maisky, pianists Nicholas Angelich and Alexander Mogilevsky, and the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz in the following program:
