May appearances in Vienna and Hamburg

Thomas Hampson returns to Vienna on May 8, as a featured performer at this year’s “Festival of Joy” Open Air Concert. This special event takes place at the Heldenplatz, with the Wiener Symphoniker and Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde under the direction of Christoph von Dohnányi. The programme features Schoenberg’s Fanfare for a Bowl Concert on motifs of “Die Gurrelieder” and “A Surviver from Warsaw” for Narrator, Men’s Choir and Orchestra op. 46, with Hampson as the Narrator. Additionally, the orchestra performs Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major op. 55 “Eroica.”

He then travels to Hamburg for a recital at the Elbphilharmonie, with pianist Wolfram Rieger. The performance takes place on May 10, and features works by Mahler, Zemlinsky, Hindemith, Ives, and more. He will also participate in a Talk Im Kulturcafe with Melanie von Bismarck on May 9, also held at the Elbphilharmonie. Please note admittance is free for this event.
