What do Daniel Day-Lewis and Thomas Hampson have in common (other than the talent that has led each to the top of his profession?)  The answer can be found in an “Arts Briefly” note that ran this week in the New York Times, which reports that both men will be officially inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge this weekend.  Like the actor, Hampson was elected to the prestigious Academy earlier (Hampson in 2010, Day-Lewis in 2011), but was unable to attend the official induction ceremony in his appointed year.  According to the Times, Day-Lewis will read texts by Washington and Lincoln, and Hampson will “perform selections from his ‘Song of America’ project,” at the induction ceremony on Saturday.  For over 230 years, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences has been honoring excellence and providing service to the nation and the world. Through independent, nonpartisan study, its ranks of distinguished “scholar-patriots” have brought the arts and sciences into constructive interplay with the leaders of both the public and private sectors.
