Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) Anniversary

A significant part of Hampson’s 2010/11 season is devoted to performances celebrating the 150th anniversary of Gustav Mahler’s birth and the 100th anniversary of his death. Recognized as today’s leading interpreter of Mahler’s songs, he will perform the composer’s song cycles in many of the world’s musical capitals, with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, The NDR Sinfonieorchester, the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester and the Czech Philharmonic with conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta, Manfred Honeck and Antonio Pappano, and in recitals with Wolfram Rieger and Craig Rutenberg. A highlight of the season will be the internationally televised orchestral concert from the birthplace of Mahler in Kaliste, Czech Republic on July 7, 2010, the composer’s 150th birthday, and a recital in his birth house the same afternoon, streamed live via the Internet.
